We all enter trance states many times a day, when we access memories, day dream or imagine. It is in this state that we do most of our learning as children. Hypnosis is a process that actively leads us into a focused state of trance and taps into elements of REM sleep where your imagination is engaged and your attention is focused inward. We also enter trance states when worrying about the past or the future and our bodies respond as if it is happening now with a noticeable stress response. Negative self talk occurs in light trance states and is a form of negative self hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy uses these natural trance states to embed positive suggestions for change harnessing the power of the imagination and our senses. Using guided relaxation techniques and hypnotic language, Hypnotherapy feels profoundly relaxing and empowering. Hypnotherapy is not sleep. As trance is a natural state, most people are able to respond well to hypnotherapy. Worried you'll find it hard to relax? - I teach self hypnosis techniques in the session as well as an Acupressure Technique (EFT) that combats anxiety symptoms quickly and effectively so relaxing in the session becomes easy. These self-help techniques are very helpful for people with ADD and ADHD. For those people who find it hard to relax with their eyes closed, positive change is still possible and I will teach you acupressure techniques to reset limiting beliefs, emotions and memories.

In your initial call we will discuss what has limited you in the past and what goals you would like to work on. Creating a space where you feel comfortable, safe and heard is important to me. In the first session I will teach you some tools for deep relaxation and self hypnosis and you will experience a short session of hypnotherapy personalised to your specific goals and interests. Follow up sessions may focus on symptom reduction, deactivating triggers or past events, controlling cravings or boosting self esteem. Hypnotherapy is a short term therapy. Most people achieve significant change in 2-6 sessions.
Hypnotherapy and EFT (an acupressure technique that combines positive psychology and cognitive behaviour therapy CBT) are evidence-based treatments that reduce stress markers, boost immunity, reduce pain and create positive lasting changes to your mindset and behaviour. Hypnotherapy is clinically effective for treating anxiety, post traumatic stress, reducing chronic pain, treating addictions and supporting long term weight loss.
A 2006 study found that when hypnotized people were asked to imagine pleasant memories, their brains responded as if the experiences were real. The parts of the brain involved in movement and sensation became more active (Faymonville, Boly, & Laureys, 2006).
When hypnotherapy is combined with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) the average client benefited 70% more than clients just receiving CBT for a range of issues that included acute distress, obesity, insomnia and hypertension. (Kirsch, Mondgomery & Sapirstein, 1995)
Hypnotherapy has also been shown to be more effective than CBT for supporting people with ADHD, supporting emotional regulation and reducing anxiety. (Hltunen, Virta and Salakari, 2014.)
Emotional Freedom Technique, EFT, also known as Tapping, has been shown to alter the expression of 72 genes in a pilot study where four individuals were given a 50-minute session of EFT.* Their full mRNA genome was measured immediately before, immediately after, four hours after, and 24 hours after the session. Results showed 72 genes to be expressing differently immediately after EFT and 25 continued to be showing altered expression 24 hours later.
